The Sturgill Hospice Care Center is our agency’s newest facility, having opened in March 2009. Located on the same campus as our West Hernando Care Team Support Center and Hospice  House, the Hospice Care Center has 24 suites and is divided into three wings with a nurses’ station strategically located within each to ensure the patient’s maximum care and comfort.

Modeled after HPH Hospice’s Marliere Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey, the Sturgill Hospice Care Center has that Southern hospitality feeling. The sprawling white exterior, green roof, beautiful landscaping and rocking chairs outside the French doors are pleasing to the eye.  The patient wings are named Sea, Grass and Earth and are decorated in shades of blue, green and red, respectively. Each suite is attractively furnished and fully carpeted with all the comforts of home for patients and their loved ones. Plus, each suite has a full, private bath. Suites at the end of each wing can accommodate multiple family members who may wish to stay overnight.

Our new Hospice Care Center also has a family room on each wing that has shiny hardwood flooring, cozy couches and chairs plus a large flat-screen TV and DVD player. This is a great place for children to play!  Adjacent to each family room is an oversized snack area complete with a refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, soda machine and comfortable chairs and tables. One can enjoy a bite to eat or quiet conversation here anytime of the day or night.

Of course, the kitchen is always a hub of activity as this is where HPH cooks prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as delicious snacks like cookies. Volunteers also assist in the kitchen.  Two dining areas flank the kitchen and overlook a screened lanai and large courtyard with a fountain and gazebo. In the center of  the Hospice Care Center there is a quiet room where one can take time to reflect, pray, meditate or talk quietly with family members, friends or a HPH team member. The stained glass window that reflects lovely shades of light into this room was handcrafted by David McGrew, MD, HPH medical director.
