Children and teens receiving counseling through HPH Hospice’s Children’s Assistance Program (CAP) are invited to participate in one of our not-for-profit agency’s annual bereavement camps. Planned and facilitated by our CAP Counselors, the camps provide a safe place for sharing, healing and memorializing the person or persons who died. Perhaps most important of all, campers learn that they are not alone in their grief – that others close in age are experiencing many of the same feelings.
While some of the campers have had someone die on our hospice program, others never expected a death. A loved one may have died due to a sudden health event, suicide, accident, murder or other circumstance.
The weekend camp for pre-teens and teens is held in late winter at Lakewood Retreat in Brooksville. Camp Sol is a one-day camp that takes place in June and is for elementary school age children, some of whom are as young as five years old.
CAP Camp is made possibly through the generous financial support of the United Way of Pasco County; places of worship; clubs and organizations; businesses; and individuals throughout Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties. Our HPH volunteers provide fantastic support as do community groups.
