Hospice Houses

Hospice Houses

There’s no place like home. But for HPH Hospice (HPH), formerly known as Hernando-Pasco Hospice, patients who have a frail caregiver or no one living with them, the Hospice House may be the ideal setting for care, comfort and support.

HPH’s four Hospice Houses serve as “a home away from home” for patients while providing an extra dose of tender loving care. The Houses are staffed around the clock seven days a week by extremely competent HPH nurses and home health aides who attend to patient needs. Our agency’s physicians, social workers, bereavement counselors and chaplains make regular visits and are always on call. Typically, the Hospice Houses have no more than eight patient suites so that residents receive immediate medical, emotional and spiritual care.

Built or located in natural settings with majestic trees and gardens, the Hospice Houses are designed with cozy touches like wall to wall carpeting, solid oak furnishings, tastefully framed artwork and comfortable sitting areas. Natural light fills each patient suite which has a private bath and in most houses, French doors leading to a patio. Patients are encouraged to bring small momentos like favorite pictures and books to personalize their suite.

At most of HPH’s Hospice Houses the meal preparation, cooking and baking is done by volunteers 365 days a year. Volunteers pride themselves on making everything from country breakfasts to turkey dinners and homemade cookies. The small dining area in most Hospice Houses allows patients and families to converse with each other. However, patients always have the option of eating in their own suite or outdoors on the verandah. Equally important, patients’ loved ones are warmly welcomed 24 hours a day and can spend the night anytime they wish. Just like home.
